[ȓə 'fedərəlɪst; englisch »Der Föderalist«], von A. Hamilton, J. Madison und J. Jay unter dem gemeinsamen Pseudonym »Publius« 1787-88 in New York veröffentlichte Zeitungsaufsätze (»Federalist papers«), die die neue amerikanische Verfassung auslegten und verteidigten, um deren Ratifizierung durch den Staat New York zu sichern. In ihnen wird die vorgeschlagene Staatsform der bundesstaatlichen Republik dargelegt und deren Vereinbarkeit mit den individuellen Freiheitsrechten, der allgemeinen Wohlfahrt und Gerechtigkeit betont. Die Aufsätze erschienen gesammelt bereits 1788 in zwei Bänden (herausgegeben von A. Hamilton) und gelten als klassisches Werk der politischen Literatur.
